Electronics Test Group meeting minutes (6/07/04)
In attendance:
Van, Larry, Susan, Gregg, Suchit (fresh from finals), Mark, Amedeo, Jana, Brian
News and announcements:
-
ESD training is Wednesday, June 16 at 10AM in building 033. Everyone working with electronics in room 101 that has not taken this course should sign up.
-
Want to use the test bed, but haven't done it before? Talk to Jana. A personalized tutorial and how-to guide are available to first time users. In fact, if I see you in there trying to use the test bed BEFORE you've gotten your tutorial, a severe talking to will be in order.
-
We successfully passed a "surprise" lab inspection a few weeks back. Thanks to everybody who helped me get the lab clean and orderly and thanks to everyone who diligently wore a wrist strap and in general, displayed good lab etiquette.
-
Next meeting is on June 21, 2004, 10 am, in Group C Conference room (unless a future email contradicts this).
-
Wear a wrist strap when working on electronics.
New V:/ drive structure - for people writing test scripts:
V:/GLAST/Electronics/ELX |
Eventually a copy of ELX package in CVS with the latest, greatest working scripts. |
V:/GLAST/Electronics/users |
User development area |
V:/GLAST/Electronics/teststands |
When running LATTE from PC in room 101, use startRunControl.bat in appropriate subdirectory.
|
- Install winCVS on your PC (or talk to Amedeo if you prefer unix). Follow directions given here:
http://www.wincvs.org/ssh.html The cvs-server-host is libra.
The package name is ELX.
-
Code development must be done in user area.
The user should check out the ELX package from CVS into their own user area and make any changes there.
-
An ELX/<unit> subdirectory should exist for each unit of hardware. Let me know if you are working on something that doesn't fit one of these categories.
-
At present, the old ELX directory is being used by the TEM production folks for their scripts. Eventually, the TEM scripts will be absorbed by us and committed to CVS. The ELX directory will get checked out of CVS with the latest working scripts.
-
Any questions? Talk to Jana or Amedeo

Hardware update:
-
~15 GASU and 5 PDUs are being built and tested right now and for the next few weeks. Three benches and the Test bed are being used to automate the process as much as possible.
-
The test bed has a new GASU on it and has been deemed functional. Please do not turn on any CAL or TKR load boards for the time being.
-
Report any problems on the test bed to the SNITZ forum called Testbed Peculiarities:
https://www-internal.slac.stanford.edu/glast/Flight_Software/Forums.
You can get permission to subscribe to SNITZ from Tony Waite (apw). This is a first attempt to track recurring problems on the test bed, so please be good about posting any funny behavior you experience.
-
Wear your wrist strap.
White board in place:
-
To use the test bed, please sign up on the white board. This will help me get a sense of how many people are vying for use of the test bed at any given time.
-
I'd appreciate any feedback on the white board system so I can figure out how it's working and how it's not.
-
Any problems or territorial disputes? Talk to Jana.
-
Wear your wrist strap.
Web page in progress:
A plea for good lab practices:
-
Try to keep the lab neat and the tools put away.
-
Don't stand in the path of the Test Bed when the crank is being turned, and always have one person on either side making sure the cables aren't being chewed up and making sure there is clearance for the test bed.
-
No food and drink in the lab is a harsh edict to impose after such a long time of casual operation, so I'm not going to do it; for now, let's just avoid open containers of liquid above or around the electronics. (I haven't noticed much food or drink around lately, but let's continue to be vigilant).

Other news:
Thanks!
Thanks everybody for attending the last meeting and for all of your hard work in the last few weeks.
