Minutes of June 21, 2002 I&T/SAS Calibration meeting

Present: Luca, Sasha, Leon, Eduardo, Xin, Karl.

1) Eduardo presented a table from the SVAC Plan (LAT-MD-00446-04). The extraction of data  involves EGSE scripts and SAS software. The philosophy is that prior to data taking one may need to run a given EGSE script to produce reference datasets. There will be two particle sources in the EM test: sea-level muons and low energy photons (20 MeV) from a van der Graaf. The question of the data format is still open and we will wait for Joanne's input in the next meeting. For the time being, CAL data are stored in ROOT and TKR in XML. User's need not to care about it since SAS calibUtil interface will screen users from these.

2) Eduardo proposed a documentation scheme that requires descriptions of : calibration type, data format, algorithm (how it was generated and how it will be used) and extra notes (e.g. thsi item depends on temperature)

3) TKR- Leon reported on the  development of algorithms for the tracker. He also pointed out that during the EM it may be difficult to get MIP efficiencies with so few TKR trays, but in any case we should do a first pass on the algorithm. The concern is that we may miss triggers and also be dominated by background coincidences. Luca suggested to investigated the usage of  scinitillators. The current development indicate that we may need about 40,000 actual triggers  for dead strip maps (assumes 1 hit/layer/event to get about 20 hits per strip to able to do the measurement).

4) CAL - Sasha  reported on muon calibrations and how CAL Light yield and attenuation are obtained. The muon calibration algorithm is essentially ready and the only missing pieces are the details of documentation and  description.

Action Lists:

1) TKR and CAL will revise the table and make suggestions prior to next meeting. Eduardo will consolidate information and distribute it early next week (prior to the next meeting).

2) Subsystems will do first pass on documentation and we will discuss during next meeting.
