Minutes of May 10, 2002 SVAC/SAS Calibration meeting

Present: Dave Thompson, Sasha, Leon, Joanne, Eduardo, Xin, Hiro, Heather.

1) SAS Calibration Infrastructure - Joanne described how many clients (including GAUDI and I&T) will interact with the calibUtil interface to extract the calibration information. From the user's point of view time stamps will be available directly from the GAUDI services and GAUDI will "know" which calibrations to use for any given event dataset. For the time being the paradigm is that data is stored in XML (TKR) and ROOT (CAL). This will evolve as we understand better the whole scheme. Nevertheless, the users are also screened from format issues since their access will happen only through the calibUtil interface. Hiro suggested a multiple level of tagging for bad strips, such as setting a range of cuts to determine whhether strips and hot/dead or not. Detailed implementation needs to be discussed further.

2) CAL calibrations - Sasha described BFEM/BTEM CAL calibrations and expected future developments. Existing IDL scripts are being converted into ROOT macros but the output format is still in ASCII. Recent version of recon does not yet include calibrations.

3) TKR calibrations - Leon alluded to the importance of thinking of head/dead strips in the context of defining efficiencies to detect MIPs. Scripts are close to what is needed for EM and prototype is being exercised into the SAS Calibration Infrastructure. It is clear that TOT is not taken as priority for SAS calibration and maybe for the moment mostly an I&T issue. The sooner we have a TOT MC the better we will be able to address this question.

4) SVAC database - Eduardo explained the database concept for trend analysis and showed a demo produce by Ashmi. The demo retrieved data from an ORACLE database at SLAC and displayed graphs on a web page on the fly. The system worked well for people at GSFC and SLAC, but was slow at NRL . Suggestions to improve layout were made and to include housekeeping data to correlate with event data. Eduardo pointed out the existence of the SVAC Plan as part of the preparation for the Face to Face meeting

Action Items

1) Sasha - provide documentation about EM CAL algorithms

2) Leon - provide documentation about EM TKR algorithms, discuss cuts with Hiro and Joanne.

3) Eduardo - Will circulate a draft of the SVAC EM database for feedback on format definitions and  validation of calibration list.

4) Ashmi - incorporate suggestions into SVAC EM database
