Minutes of the May 31 Meeting

Present: Eduardo do Couto e Silva,  Bob Hartman, Tune Kamae, Benoit Lott, Bernard Phlips,  Steve Ritz.

1) Benoit presented a  for the low energy positrons. The  plan emphasizes in cross calibrations between towers (energy leakage) at energies achievable at SLAC. Few things were missing and will be incorporated soon

2) Tune reported the meeting between him, Eduardo and Ted Fieguth. The channeling beam uses a set-up similar to that of the coherent beam and with similar monochromaticity. More investigation will follow.   The other alternative the positron annihilation beam has been used in Livermore with Bubble Chambers, Tune will try to find more information on that.

3) Bernard suggested a possibility of adding a neutron beam in case we have a proton beam available (using a hardener). The idea was welcomed but details depend on the availability of the beam. Bernard is supposed to investigate the plans at RHIC.  The heavy ion beam should preferably reach all the way up to Fe (GSI goes up to Ni).

4) Eduardo presented  preliminary plots showing simulations using the software proposal. Cuts are not either fully or correctly implemented, but the idea is to attach simulations to the report as soon as we get a stable package. The next part was a discussion on the matrix for the low energy hadron beam, the idea was also to over events that hit the converters in the tracker sideways and mimic photon conversions. The plan also follow that of electrons (shooting on the sides of CAL and on the back of the tower).

5) LAT in a beam. Lengthy discussion. The points of agreement and disagreement in the committee have been summarized by Steve. The idea is to read Eduardo's note carefully and provide comments next week, we will need input from DAQ and electronics experts.

6) We meet again next FRIDAY at 8:30 am PDT at VRVS MOON - June 8
