INTRODUCTION

Originally introduced for the testbeam, ROOTWriter is designed to convert raw data files into digiRootData Root files.  ROOTWriter can handle data from the 1999 GLAST testbeam, 2001 GLAST balloon flight, as well as instrument response files (IRF) - an ASCII format designed for use with our Monte Carlo simulations of the testbeam or balloon flight instruments. (NOTE: you cannot convert full-instrument simulation data using ROOTWriter)

HOW TO OBTAIN ROOTWRITER

Please see the ROOTWriter How-To Document.

GEANT4 TO IRF CONVERSION

Here are the IRF ids in use for the balloon and a description of the IRF format.
Note:  when converting an IRF file, the TKR strip ids are not offset in any way (recall the TKR strip offset of 64 from the testbeam) - hence, any software that reads in ROOT files generated from an IRF file should take the TKR strip ids as they appear.

ROOTWRITER'S INNARDS

How about a description of how ROOTWriter works?

Here is a description of the Integrated Variable-Length Tower Event Data Format (IVTE).
