Present: Dan, Heather, Ian, Joanne, Karl, Leon, Richard, Toby, Tracy
Linux Build: (Karl) There seems to be some unpleasant interaction between our requirements files and CMT. The result is that certain necessary libraries don't always make their way to the link command lines as they should. It might help to eliminate the inclusion of files which really should not be compiles on their own, such as *.h files, from the library list in the requirements files. (They're only included to make things a bit easier for Development Studio, but this could be handled another way.) To appreciate the travail Karl experienced and perhaps avoid some of it yourself see his Linux Adventures.
(Toby, Karl) There is a need for regular, e.g. nightly, automated builds of the head on Linux, perhaps including automated emails to owners of packages which don't build. Currently it is difficult for NT developers to verify that their work will build on Linux. Karl will look into providing this.
Linux Resources: (various) noric02 is hard-wired in some places as our CVS interface machine, but this is a public machine which not infrequently gets bogged down with other processes. Karl recommends we buy our own machine, to be maintained by SCS, to provide this interface. One could also use this machine for other functions, such as the nightly builds, but Richard warns that we probably don't want to get into the business of providing a full-fledged interactive server. Ian suggests that nightly builds be submitted to an appropriate publicly-available batch queue.
Random Number Service: (Toby, Ian) See Toby's core report. Ian is nearly done with implementing checkpointing.
Geometry: (Joanne) The first part of the ID Dictionary work (build dictionary, verify, check IDs for compliance) is done and behaves properly on plausible inputs; more testing is desirable.
Balloon: (Heather) ROOT data files are nearly ready to go.
ROOT Macro: (Dan) In the process of providing a macro to output "all histograms" Dan learned about some obsucre ROOT byways. You might save yourself some time by looking at his summary.
