Present: Arache, Heather, Joanne, Richard, Sasha, Thomas, Toby,
New Cal design: Arache reported that Sasha is completing updates to the glastmedia package needed for the new Cal mechanical design. We need a way to continue development on the old code (since it does not represent the old design correctly in at least a couple respects) as well as the new. Toby suggested making a branch in which development of the old code can continue. The code implementing the new design could then go at the head.
Gaudi news: Toby is working on an event display compatible with Gaudi. It works only with Gaudi 6 since it depends on the (new with Gaudi 6) "incident" service, which provides a way for applications to sign up as listeners for, e.g., menu item selection. The work is in two new packages which are not yet checked in. Work still needs to be done to modify Glastsim to use the new services.
Glastsim-with-Gaudi (5) still resists building successfully on Linux. The problems are restricted to our own shareables (e.g. GlastEvent) and their dependence on the Xerces shareable; code which comes with the Gaudi distribution builds properly.
Workshop: The workshop the week after next includes a Core review, to take place on Wednesday. Toby's thoughts on what will be presented can be found at http://www-glast.slac.stanford.edu/reviews/core/jan_2001_agenda.htm
Balloon flight: Richard reports that the most critical pieces of work are getting attended to. The digi design discussion is not yet complete, at least for Cal. Steve Ritz's proposal for scintillator ids awaits approval by Jonathon. Heather will be looking into conversion from balloon raw to digi classes, but needs to get the final word from JJ on the appearance of the former.
Generic XML geometry status: Joanne is working on a proposed structure for simulation code, gismo or Geant4, which will consume the new XML description, similar to the one used by Atlas, described at the last meeting (see the sample XML file describing the ACD). It will probably be easier to handle from Geant4; the proposal needs to be ironed out with the help of someone who is knowledgeable about Geant4, such as Riccardo.
