Core Minutes 1/18/2005
Present: Joanne Bogart, Anders Borgland, Toby Burnett,
David Chamont, James Chiang, Seth Digel, Richard Dubois,
Warren Focke, Riccardo Giannitrapani, Berrie Giebels, Navid Golpayegani,
Tony Johnson, Heather Kelly, Michael Kuss, Matt Langston, Julie McEnery,
Chuck Patterson, James Peachey, Leon Rochester, Tom Stephens, Tracy Usher
- GlastRelease: Toby has been assembling
a HEAD version with all the latest and greatest, including new
TkrRecon
and ROOT 4. It's almost working. The last stumbling block is
Trigger.
GlastRelease HEAD had a rather old version. Expect a new GlastRelease
tag in a couple days. (Richard) Are there merit ntuple changes? Have
they been documented? (Leon) Yes, there are. No, not yet, but they will be.
- TkrRecon: (Heather) Everyone should be aware
that we're making a clean break between old and new TkrRecon.
Files are altogether incompatible: old code
can't read files written by new and conversely. (Richard) If possible we
should arrange it so, if someone tries, the failure will be quick and
obvious, perhaps by detecting a version mismatch.
(Richard)To complete
validation, will make a large all-gamma run and use System Tests.
-
Root 4: (Heather) It's in HEAD of both
GlastRelease and EM and appears to be fine.
(Richard) Is Installer able
to distribute new ROOT? (Navid) Yes. (Toby) New ROOT, Windows version,
as distributed by
ROOT Central, does not include Python support. (Heather) We need to decide what to distribute.
It's preferable to stick to standard ROOT distributions if possible. (Richard)
We are not yet dependent on Python support in ROOT, though we will probably
move in that direction.
What about Science Tools and ROOT? There is a small hitch currently
in st_graph, not invoking rootcint automatically during build. (Leon,
Heather) This can
probably be fixed by adding the right stuff to requirements; see for
example commonRootData.
-
Data Handling Workshop:
(Tony J.) See his comprehensive summary
[the sort of thing that makes my job a piece of cake! ed.]
(Richard) there was also a splinter session on
new communication tools like this one, a
potential replacement for email lists.
-
FRED News: (Riccardo)
-
The lastest FRED release includes a check-for-update function. Next
goal is to provide live update from FRED, without the need for quitting,
downloading new version, etc.
- Part of FRED release procedure is now to automatically update
Web documentation. Riccardo is thinking about adding automatic email
notification of the new release to interested parties.
- FRED distribution has been reorganized to look like an external
library, so it will be possible for Navid's Installer to treat it like one.
(Toby) Motivation for this is a scheme that he and Riccardo have worked on
to make it possible for Gleam to start up FRED. Once FRED can be treated like any
other external
library, Gleam will know where to find it.
-
New RM: (Navid)
New version of Processor is close to done; expect to finish around the
end of the week. This should speed up compile
by allowing certain operations to proceed in parallel. Windows RM is
next up.
∫ Flight(w, ..) dw
-
Tower A: (Richard) Tracker arrived at SLAC and
underwent testing on Sunday and Monday. Should be ready to mate with
CAL by the end of the month.
-
EM: (Heather)
She has been upgrading EM HEAD with ROOT 4, new TkrRecon,
etc. — more or
less keeping pace with GlastRelease HEAD.
Do
we or don't we go to new trigger bits definition?
Anders will get back to her shortly with I&T's
preference. (Richard) Eduardo specifically asked
for new TkrRecon, which may lead to more software instability in
the EM tag
we hand over for production use than had originally been anticipated.
Pipeline will have to be more forgiving in some respects, and it will be
important to keep track of which software release was used for each run.
Pipeline currently keeps track of the version of the script run, however
Xin says I&T will keep track of EM version. (Warren)
In our next iteration of our task set, we plan to have the EM version # as
part of our run directory structure. That way, even though the
information is not in GINO's database, it will be easy to see what versions
were used with a particular run, and semi-easy to find what runs used a
given version.
Coming Soon
- Travels: Richard and Tracy will be
heading to TRIUMF on Thursday and Friday of this week, consulting on
software for the KOPIO Tracker, which is similar to GLAST's.
