Present: Alex, Heather, Joanne, Karl, Leon, Marco, Pisa (sorry I can't be more specific), Riccardo, Sasha, Sean, Toby, Tracy
Core Report: (Toby) See his report. There was a little more news about several of the items there:
Gaudi v9: (Heather) It's ready and the time seems ripe! She expects to spend about a day getting it in and making sure it's OK.
ROOT: No reason not to go ahead with the new version of this, also.
gcc: (Alex) He has made it easy to select the proper compiler; next step is to make the correct choice automatic, at least for people using SLAC Linux machines.
Recursive checkout: (Alex) Pere Mato's script, used by LHCb, is a work-around for CMT recursive checkout woes, but it also has a lot of LHCb-specific logic which we wouldn't want.
testPack.pl: (Karl) Everything (e.g., including nightly builds, though there is a need for a "mother package") is basically working; error handling still could use some improvement. The whole thing needs to be properly documented and put into CVS; likely will happen this week.
G4 transition: A lot of work, here, mostly documented in Toby's report. Additionally,
Toby and Leon are working out the details of a service which will keep track of active area in the wafers and provide a strip number, given a position
Riccardo reports that Francesco is exercising G4Generator on Linux. Some fixes have been made, so that it now basically works; probably some more to go. Francesco is also looking into physics lists and may be ready to report to this meeting next week.
G4 Migration Questions: (Leon)
Q1: How are we going to deal with real data, as from BFEM and BTEM, in the new scheme? A1: Will need to make new-style geometry files, which is probably non-trivial, and somehow indicate which ROOT data files go with which geometry.
Q2: We can't use IRF files [support has been removed from G4Generator], so until the new digitization is working, we can't exercise TkrRecon, right? A2: Right, but the new digitization, at least for tracker, is practically done.
New ICQ Clients: (Richard) Linux users might want to look at gaim, which has gotten good reviews so far from GLAST folk who have tried it. [seems that Solaris binaries also exist. ed.] Windows users can check out trillian as an alternative to ICQ's own ICQ client. No banner ads!
Unwelcome Visitor: We were frequently annoyed by the unmannerly and most likely non-GLAST g711Ulaw64k, who paid no attention to our requests to go away but did frequently leave his mike open. [ed: I sent a complaint to VRVS support; no reply yet.]
Doc. Task Force: (ed. for DTF) Absentmindedly failed to say anything, but we probably should have mentioned that the TkrRecon Review Report is available, as are minutes of our meeting yesterday.
