Tom Stephens, Tracy Usher
- New external libraries: (Heather)
Last week Tracy did the merge of all the packages that have been
modified. Gaudi was rebuilt with our versions of ROOT and
Xerces. It is working on Linux. Did a similar rebuild of Gaudi for
Windows and a rebuild of G4 using our version of CLHEP on Windows.
This version of Gaudi uses a lot more stuff (i.e., external
libraries) than v12. We have decided that those externals which are
used only by Gaudi and not by our code will be bundled
inside, rather than adding to the number of external libraries we
have to keep track of. This includes SEAL, POOL, expat and, to a
degree, BOOST.
(Heather)The Windows distribution is currently at 700 Mbyte; would like to
slim it down to 500 [which she managed to do after the meeting].
(Toby) It looks like a couple
unintended changes
crept into
GlastCppPolicy when Tracy got rid of an unnecessary explicit reference
to getFactoryEntries in the Windows link options.
(Richard) What will it take to get a good RM build of the new stuff
on Windows? (Heather) Some of the new externals have to be put in
their proper place, LdfConverter needs some updates for the new
Gaudi, and a few things have to be tagged.
- RM/Installer complaints:
On Windows when using the new GlastPolicy with common lib directory,
many dll's get rebuilt whether or not they need it. Navid will
make a GlastPolicy version which only uses the common lib directory
on Linux until this problem is resolved. [Tracy was having
build problems on Linux which he thought might also be due to
the common lib directory, but discovered after the meeting they
were caused by using an old, unsupported (v14) version of CMT.]
(Toby) Gui Installer hangs up and has to be killed if it can't find
something that has been requested. (Richard) Make a JIRA describing
the problem.
- Beamtest: (Richard) See
his notes, almost untouched,
from the recent meeting in Pisa. Expect two more meetings, also
in Pisa, most likely one in early May and the other in late June.
- EngineeringModel: (Anders)
He would like to see a new release based on GR v8r1. Part of
the verification process will be checking backward compatibility
of CalRecon. Heather is
aware of the request but, due to an inability to clone herself, has not yet
been able to follow through.
- CMT: (David Chamont) He will ask
Riccardo to make changes as needed to MRvcmt to support CMT v18
as well as v16.
Christian Arnault, chief CMT guru, has moved on to other things,
but there are other people minding the store.
- Pipeline: (Igor for Data Handling)
Focus recently has been on Pipeline II which will support
parallel submission and execution of tasks. Work to design the new
db schema is in progress. Igor is working on the XML importer, which
reads descriptions of tasks. More information on Pipeline II can
be found in Confluence.
- In brief: (Richard)
- We need to think about coordinating numerous databases. Would like
plans to be firmed up by the end of April.
- The new Kavli Building is now open. There will be an exodus
from Central Lab Annex, followed by some shuffling (you'll have to
imagine the face cards).
