- Redoing DC2 Sky: (Richard) The pulsars
were misbehaving. Toby tracked it down: the
seeding of ROOT random numbers
— can't use Gaudi mechanism in Science Tools — was happening at the
wrong time. Tom G. has now rerun the pulsars with the fix and they
look fine. Julie would like to also rerun GRBs, a short operation,
in order to check positioning.
[Update: As of about 1 PM,
rerun of GRBs is done.]
The pulsar run went slowly; it was not getting very many job slots.
After some prompting, Neil from SCS looked into it and confirmed there
was a problem which he apparently fixed. [Update: no, it's not fixed.]
- Beamtest readiness for MC runs: (Francesco)
Tom has done some tests already with an earlier version of the code.
Still required are:
- Directory for the output
- ROOT macro to write items to the ntuple
A recent bug fix eliminated another item which would otherwise
have been on this list.
Among other things to be investigated with these runs are
effects of the beam dump. (Leon) Because development is primarily taking
place on the MAIN branch, using the new external libraries, Beamtest is
a little behind.
- GR code merge for external libraries: (Toby)
4 million all-gammas were run off for Bill with GR v9. He says they look
fine, except rates are a bit high, presumably due to the fact that we are
for the time being unable to run the Onboard Filter code on Windows.
This is not a happy situation.
The only potentially significant differences between the DC2 branch and
the GR v9 (MAIN) line of development are
- ACD geometry. v9 has the correct orientation for overlapping tiles and
DC2 doesn't. This shouldn't cause any difference in statistics, though.
We could consider using a newer still xmlGeoDbs tag which includes
simulation of bent
top tiles, but it wouldn't have any effect without upgrades to AcdDigi
and AcdRecon.
- New ACD analysis and ntuple variables
(Francesco) We should investigate the use of more precise hadronic physics
models available in Geant4. (Toby) ALICE is using
Fluka together with G4. (Richard) suggested
looking at the Bertini cascade model. [thanks to Francesco for vast improvement
over my initial fuzzy sentence. ed.]
- Workbook: (Chuck) It's
in CVS!
For the time being, if you modify an existing page, please notify Chuck
when you check it in. If you would like to add a page or set of pages,
rather than adding them to CVS yourself,
bundle up everything into a folder and send it to Chuck. That way we
will continue to have consistent naming conventions
- Support for charge injection data:
(Bryson) His code now uses DFI to unpack context information. His
part in this project is about done. (Heather) will have to make
some small changes to accommodate teh modified interface.
(Richard)When will people be able to use this to look at digis?
(Heather) As soon as a new EM tag incorporating it, and perhaps
also new calibration code, has been made
and run through System Tests.
- ACD calibrations: (Joanne, Eric)
Joanne's part is done; Eric's is close. Since development was done
on the main branch, there will have to be some branch tags to
get this stuff into EM.
- Disk space: (Richard)
Our new 60 terabytes is on-site. SCS has promised to hook it
up to temporary power, if need be, but it now seems likely that
the electrical work needed for the permanent installation will
be done fairly soon. One way or another, we should have use of
this space within about a week.
- CMT and MRvcmt: (David Chamont)
Having heard no complaints since last week, he proposed we
make the switch to newer CMT and MRvcmt. However, it seems
there has not yet been enough use by others, especially
Windows users. to know if this is safe.
[More people would be inclined to exercise this stuff if
the new CMT were available through the Installer. ed.] [Update: Tracy has been trying
it out on Windows and has not been able to get it to work.]
