Core Minutes 5/2/2006
Present: Joanne Bogart,
Toby Burnett, David Chamont,
Jim Chiang, Richard Dubois, Warren Focke,
Riccardo Giannitrapani, Berrie Giebels, Tom Glanzman, Navid Golpayegani,
Heather Kelly, Michael Kuss, David Landriu, Bryson Lee, Francesco Longo,
Igor Pavlin, Leon Rochester, Tom Stephens,
Tracy Usher
- GlastRelease: (Richard) As of last night
there is a new tag, v9r2. The RM Linux builds disk had filled up so
he and Navid deleted about 60 old builds to make room. Toby and Tracy
have tracked down the last of the particle naming bugs.
(Toby) Windows build times are if anything worse than before.
(Richard) There was a configuration change, allowing 6 concurrent jobs
on a machine rather than 3, which could be relevant.
- Beamtest: (Richard, Francesco) Tracy recommends
going to GlastRelease v9 base. Francesco and Michael almost have this working.
There is a compile problem related to ROOT, Michael has seen a linking
problem and there is also a run-time problem, but they expect to be able
to resolve them all shortly. The high priority electron and photon runs
have been made using the old, largely GR v8-based, Beamtest release.
- Finding calibrations: Toby suggests that we
settle on a recommended spot, somehow related to GLAST_EXT,
for users who have to maintain their own collection of calibrations. The
code would then look there if LATCalibRoot was not set. [Joanne has
some misgivings which she
couldn't express at the meeting since her mike mysteriously stopped
working a couple weeks ago.]
- MRStudio: (Riccardo)
You are urged to read Riccardo's
report for the complete story. A few points are summarized here.
First import into CVS was flawed, but this should be fixed shortly.
Please note that all MRStudio development has been done with CMT v1r18;
he assumes we will have officially moved to this version by the time
MRStudio is ready for serious use. By the way, he believes the latest
MRvcmt version has
fixed problems people have reported using MRvcmt with CMT v1r18. Please
let him know directly or open a JIRA issue if you discover otherwise.
The solution files created by CMT for vs71
(controlled somewhere in GlastPolicy?) aren't usable and have to
be removed somewhat awkwardly by MRStudio (Riccardo's work-around is to
do it as part of the configure step) in order not to interfere
with a correct build. (Toby) The GlastPolicy stuff handling this
is old and out of date. We also need to be concerned with
Visual Studio 8: will support be forthcoming from the CMT support team?
-
Processing circus: (Richard)
We need to plan carefully to avoid a crunch. The LAT is supposed to
be shipped around May 13th or 14th and will be put in thermal vac
July-August. During this time data will be taken continuously. The
Beamtest will also be in progress. The combined load may be more than
SLAC can handle.
- In brief: (Richard)
- SCS has configured 5 of our 6 new disk servers. They should be available
some time today. Update: as of this afternoon, 4 of the 6 are up.
- Installer seems to occasionally lose track of
xmlUtil.
- Our first meeting using EVO was a qualified success. It was fully
functional for most people, but not all. Please send comments and complaints
to the Core mailing list.
Richard will pass them on to the EVO support team.
