Core Minutes 8/9/2005
Present: Joanne Bogart, Philippe Bruel, Toby Burnett, Jim Chiang
Seth Digel, Richard Dubois, Warren Focke, Riccardo Giannitrapani,
Tom Glanzman, Navid Golpayegani, Tony Johnson, Heather Kelly,
Julie McEnery, Chuck Patterson,
James Peachey, Dirk Petry, Leon Rochester, Mark Strickman, Tracy Usher
- Data handling: (Tony)
Only activity recently has been on Pipeline. There were some minor
changes to the front-end and (main event) Dan put a new version of
the Pipeline into production last week. (Richard) was then able
to move MC production back to prod pipeline.
Tony will be leaving for two weeks at Snowmass in a few days, but
probably will still be in touch via internet.
- DC2 code readiness: (Tracy) See his
report
at the Analysis Group Meeting for the complete story (up to that point) on
juggling versions of various packages. Since then Tracy has run into a
seg fault problem during finalize. Toby made a 1 million event run
on Windows (Debug rather than Release since we're missing a Release version
of an external library) and didn't see crashes, but comparison of
EvtEnergyCorr and the MC energy looks very bad for energies below
100 MeV.
(Richard) seg faults occur in two varieties in background runs and just one
in all-gammas. There is a Geant4-related variety that Francesco is looking
into. Heather will investigate the other kind.
Schedule for DC2 has been revised in favor of a more
gradual approach to the 1 billion event run, now expected to start on Sept. 22.
- EM: (Heather) We have a new release,
v5r0608p4, as of this morning. New stuff includes a change to RootIo to
increase filesize limit, some fixes to LatIntegration, and changes to
calibUtil and rdbModel which will be needed for a new, improved rdbGUI.
- RM, Installer: (Navid) There is a problem
at the moment with Windows builds, causing a pile-up of VC8debug builds.
Navid will get rid of unnecessary ones as soon as he no longer has need
of logs to debug the problem, which he suspects has something to do with
the new bin directory [as of this afternoon, seems it may be fixed:
old failed builds are gone. ed.] Next step will be to modify Installer
to make use of the bin directory. He doesn't expect this to go smoothly,
but it should be ready by the Collaboration Meeting. (Richard) What
about pfiles and so forth? (Navid) Those are lower priority, but they're
on his to-do list.
