Present: Heather, Joanne, Karl, Leon, Richard, Toby, Tracy
Core Report: (Toby) See Toby's writeup, which reports in depth on several issues, some of which are covered below. Highlights include features list for new pdrApp release v6r4, some remaining bugs and missing feature needed for PDR, using ROOT in CMT/Gaudi environment, and a peek at Tracking discussions. There will be at least one more Tracking internal meeting before a proposal will be ready for more public discussion.
PDR Run Verification: (Karl) Has verified that patched v6r2 used in PDR run really is equivalent to v6r3.
pdrApp v6r4 on Linux: (Karl) Almost builds out of the box on Linux, but not quite. After fix is made probably will want to retag to avoid confusion.
Automatic build: (Karl and others) Tools are in place for unix, but there are policy decisions to be made about exactly what gets built, etc. Karl will come up with a list. To do it on Windows one needs some non-vanilla infrastructure (e.g., ssh server or something similar) which Karl is looking into. Toby suggests we do it on the UW Server.
Tarred distribution: (Richard, Karl) Richard tried it and it didn't immediately work because certain environment variables are set according to environment when distribution was made. Solution is probably to run 'cmt config' after unbundling the distribution. This needs to be documented.
Using ROOT: (various) The example file is quite long and complicated. There are several reasons for this:
Alicia has included almost everything one might want to do in the one file
Histograms are defined one by one in situations where they would more naturally and compactly be thought of and defined by means of an array or other data structure
Many lines are devoted to refreshing pointers for each event. (Leon) This isn't necessary if the histograms are global. (Heather) We probably don't want to make all the histograms global, but there are other more pleasant ways to deal with refreshing pointers than what's there now.
Position available: (Richard) We have a slot starting 1 October for a Scientific Programmer; will start interviewing people soon.
Documenting n-tuple: (Richard, from Eric) Eric relays sentiments that the n-tuple variables are not well enough documented. This includes CAL variables; he promises to address this part of the problem.
