Core Minutes 9/26/2006
Present: Joanne Bogart, Anders Borgland, Toby Burnett,
David Chamont, James Chiang,
Tom Glanzman, Berrie Giebels, Navid Golpayegani, Heather Kelly,
Chuck Patterson, Igor Pavlin, Leon Rochester
- Data server back-end: (Tom)
Recall that there was a separate Data server front-end for
DC2. Igor is working on merging this with the front-end used
for other kinds of data. The merged version should be ready
by about end of October, as will the new back-end.
- Reprocessing: (Toby)
Bill has yet another collection of classification trees. Reprocessing
typically requires some work from Tracy to support new variables, etc.,
and Tracy is out of town. (Tom) Nonetheless, he has responded to
emails on the subject; it sounds like he will do his part reasonably
soon.
(Toby) How does one access data reprocessed with new classification
trees from the Data Server? (Tom) These reprocessed files are not
registered in the Pipeline DB, so you must supply an explicit list
of (Merit) files.
- New OSes and LSF support: Navid
confirmed that there is no progress here since last week.
- Character arrays in the Ntuple variables (Leon)
After a little fancy footwork to avoid empty strings (which ROOT doesn't
like) they are now supported, but there are as yet no character array
Ntuple variables defined.
Here's the
whole story.
- EVO ills
- Some (Riccardo, Francesco) never managed to enter the meeting.
- Toby's sound was choppy at times (for me, listening in at home)
- Several of us were unable to download Leon's shared file. In fact,
the several were exactly those logged onto Linux machines. Anders figured
it out: there were blanks in the file name. After Leon changed
embedded blanks to underscores all was well.
Postscript: (Toby) The EVO folks have been told about the last problem and
will fix it in the next release, due next week, which will also include
an improved calendar.
Postpostscript: (Joanne) I just brought up EVO on my Linux RHEL3 to
see what the calendar looked like. It downloaded a new version of the
client software and the Koala
window is a mess! I sent the maintainers a picture.
But the next time I started it up, all was back to normal. Curious!
