Core Minutes 10/24/2006
Present: Joanne Bogart, Anders Borgland, Toby Burnett,
David Chamont, Eric Charles, James Chiang, Johann Cohen-Tanugi,
Richard Dubois, Zachary Fewtrell, Berrie Giebels,
Tom Glanzman, Heather Kelly, Michael Kuss, Bryson Lee, Francesco Longo,
Chuck Patterson, Igor Pavlin, Leon Rochester, Mark Strickman, Tracy Usher
- Onboard Filter: (Richard, Mark, Tracy)
The situation is murky. We would like to have the ability to enable
multiple filters for the 1-week Service Challenge run, but currently
this isn't working; we can only used one filter at a time. Tracy plans to
talk directly to Richard Hughes and to Tony Waite about the interface.
(Toby) would like to get rid of debug output. (Tracy) thought this
had already been done; perhaps that was only for Linux. If it still needs
to be done for Windows, it just means a rebuild of the external library.
he will look into it and contact Navid if a rebuild is necessary.
- Multiple calibrations: Leon and Zach
gave presentations on their approaches to this problem for
TKR and CAL, respectively. See them in the
Core
Meetings
section of Confluence.
(Richard) For TKR and CAL we still need to generate the alternate
calibrations to be used for simulation. What is the state of
separate simulation and recon calibrations for ACD? (Eric) Existing code
doesn't even read in calibrations for simulation; it just uses ideal
values. (Richard) How big a job would it be to start using calibrations
in simulation? (Eric) Not that big, but not that high a priority either,
relatively speaking.
- GlastRelease status (Toby) The new
tag, to be submitted soon after the meeting will be v9r15. Tracy has fixed
the problem with GlastClassify and ints. [But maybe we're not there yet.
See
this thread in the Infrasoft mailing list.]
(Richard) What machinery do we have for generating interleaved
backgrounds? (Toby) Define a pseudo-source which returns a
zero-energy particle. The Trigger fails and branches to code
which inserts something appropriate, taking into account
- geomagnetic latitude
- distance in pointing from zenith
Note that if we scan across the earth, the rate increases from
100 hertz to 400, and the gamma rate goes way up.
- New hadronic model (Richard) This requires
a new patched G4, right? (Francesco, Tracy) No. Tracy happened to
check out a newer G4 and used it as he developed the new package
G4HadronSim, but it's not required. The
same thing could be done against the usual G4 version. (Tracy) Very
large static tables are required for this code to operate.
Rather than putting them in CVS, which would make checkout of the package
very painful, he plans to treat them as an external library.
- Level 0 data simulation (Heather) See her
ever-evolving
Confluence page for the latest scoop. New sections include "My Favorite
Acronyms and Definitions", "What does Level 0 data look like, anyway?"
the Oct. 23rd update on lsep_write, and the diagram at the bottom.
(Bryson) set up the cmx environment and ran against JJ's development
area. It doesn't appear that either of the issues standing in our
way has been addressed. JJ says that if, while he's working on the
code, he can see what's wrong he'll fix it, but other higher priorities
prevent him from making an independent investigation. [From Heather:
Since the meeting it appears Bryson has found the fixes necessary for
lsep_write.exe, but the FSW release schedule is such that we might
not get it on the 3-4 week timescale that we need.]
- Data server back-end (David Chamont)
He has almost complete the generalized pruning; more testing is
needed. He expects the new front-end will be ready quite soon.
