See also Toby's Core Issues/Status document for some comments on several of the items below.
Releases: (Toby) v4 is the last "old Gleam" (in the sense that it uses Gaudi v9 rather than v11, builds an executable, etc.) It doesn't at the moment compile on Linux, but a small change to TkrFitPlane.h will take care of that.
Tools status: (Toby) See this page devoted to migration issues, primarily but not exclusively those relating to Gaudi v11r1.
The new container package IExternal contains interface packages for CLHEP, AIDA, and so forth. It does not at the moment contain XMLEXT, the interface package for Xerces, but it could .
Gaudi has itself been organized as an external package, making it possible for users to import binaries without having to build Gaudi for themselves. Should still be possible to import the source if desired for debugging.
There is a problem with some of the code generated by rootcint when using vc++ 7.0 on the reconRootData package. The code generated doesn't compile. Pending a more comprehensive fix (probably to rootcint itself) can perhaps change the reconRootData classes input to rootcint in such a way that the output will compile.
There is a problem compiling G4 with gcc 3.2. The library libG4Interfaces.so doesn't get built, causing the link of the test executable in our Geant4 package to fail. No fix yet; Riccardo has been asked to look into it.
Note: code compiles with gcc 3.2 is in general incompatible with code compiled with gcc 2.9*, so anyone wishing to try out the new compiler will need to recompile all of Gleam and will also need external library binaries compiled with 3.2. [For post-meeting developments on this issue, see Johann's email to infrasoftlist.]
Alex ran into a problem building (old) Gleam where the wrong (too new) version of CLHEP was checked out. The fix is to specify the proper CLHEP version in the Gleam requirements file. The existing file doesn't mention CLHEP at all.
