Mark,

Below are 2 RFA closures from Jim Ryan to LAT PDR RFA 46 and 48.  These were the last 2 RFAs open from the LAT PDR.

Subject: Re: GLAST Project RFA Responses for Originator Review

Mark,

RFA46

I will accept the response to RFA 46 from the GLAST PDR.  However, if you read the specific request and the response, you will see that only the Cal to Grid interface is addressed for "shear restraint."  At the time this RFA was written, that was my main concern.  However, this RFA was intended to cover the Tracker to Grid interface, the LAT to S/C interface, and other primary structure and alignment critical interfaces.  Since I am somewhat familiar with most of these interfaces now (and the designs have matured), I believe that they do have positive shear restraints (pins, tight fitting shoulder bolts, etc.), and I will accept this response.  The RFA response would have been more complete if all of these critical interfaces were addressed for shear restraint as was done with the "locking features" part of the response.

RFA 48

I will accept the response to RFA 48 concerning a comprehensive strength qualification "plan" for LAT.  This is significantly more information than was presented at the PDR.  I believe that a subsequent RFA (delta CDR mechanical peer review?) was written (and is still open) to get an advance copy of the "detailed" strength qualification plan for the Grid.  This plan should be reviewed carefully to ensure that the right tests (static pull) are being done to the right interfaces to properly strength qualify the Grid.

Jim,

Attached are 2 responses to RFAs you wrote at the GLAST LAT PDR.  Mark Goans, the Code 300 Review chair, has asked that all Project approved RFA responses by reviewed and approved by the originators prior to official submittal to him.

Please review the attached responses and let me know if they satisfactorily close the RFAs you generated.  You can provide your approval or comments back to me and I will distribute them to the appropriate GLAST Project personnel.

Responses are attached for the following RFAs:

GLAST LAT PDR # 46, 48

In addition, an updated response to LAT PDR 47 was sent to you last week in response to the comments you provided.  Please provide your approval or any comments you have to that response as well.

Thanks for your help in reviewing the GLAST Project,
Mark
